ABOUT FROM
FARM TO FORK.

From Farm to Fork, an initiative of Landcare Australia, is a fundraising campaign all about getting together to enjoy awesome Australian food, while supporting the farmers that make it possible.

157,000 FARMERS ON 135,000 AUSTRALIAN FARMS PRODUCE 93% OF THE TOTAL VOLUME OF FOOD CONSUMED IN AUSTRALIA AND FEED SOME 40 MILLION PEOPLE OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA EACH DAY.*

From Farm to Fork is about supporting the farmers who are working to make sure that our land not only produces the food we need now, but produces enough food to feed our kids - and our kids' kids. It's about helping these farmers respond to the growing number of challenges they are facing while keeping our landscapes healthy and productive.

Those challenges are real. There will be 9 billion people on this planet by 2043. To feed this population, world food production will need to increase by 70% by 2050.**

To be able to meet these demands, farmers need healthy soil, productive land and an abundant supply of water. They are need to be able to cope with drought, floods, pests, diseases and an ever changing climate.

And farmers don't just produce food! They also look after the health of our land, and with 53% of Australia's land used for agirculture*, this is a pretty important job! As guardians of the land, they need to ensure that the natural environment remains healthy. Healthy landscapes means wildlife has access to habitat and food, invasive weeds and pest animals are controlled, water quality is looked after, and biodiversity and healthy ecosystems function.

Maintaining the delicate balance of healthy landscapes and productive land use isn't easy, but it's what our farmers do. Farmers often get together in Landcare groups to work together across properties to tackle issues that affect whole communities - salinity, erosion, water quality, loss of habitat.. The list goes on.
